PTO MEETING
Class Parents & Zoom
November 10, 2020
Principal’s Report
The Grade 8 Movie Night held Friday, November 6th was a success! Students enjoyed the sounds of a terrific DJ and the movie ELF! Special thanks for the Petrella family for their donations that made this event possible for our grade 8 students. Thanks to those who chaperoned, too!
Trunk or Treat was rescheduled to Friday, November 6th and it was a great afternoon activity to end the week. Teachers and students also gathered treats for remote learners, too! We ask that remote learners pick-up their treat bags from the school main offices.
SJS will welcome a new Business Manager who will transition to the team over the next two to three weeks. Mrs. Ann Sundstrom will join the SJS team.
The Pampered Chef Fundraiser has ended; SJS stands to earn a little over $2,000. Grade 8 has won the pizza party sponsored by the sales representative.
SJS will hold its Thanksgiving Prayer Service on Wednesday, 11/25 inside the church with Grades K-2 at 9am, Grades 3 -5 at 10 am and Grades 6 - 8 at 11 am. Teachers are preparing activities for their students to share at each prayer meeting. Remote learners will participate via zoom.
SJS still awaits its camera order, chromebook laptops and security doors.
SJS continues to practice its fire and security drills observing CDC and NJDOE guidelines during this pandemic.
Beta Club induction is scheduled for Monday, November 16th at 1:30 pm. The ceremony will be live streamed via zoom for parents and their guests.
Students in grades 5 - 8 will begin serving adoration this month. Classes are scheduled for approximately 30 - 40 minute sessions inside the church.
Congratulations to our teachers who wrote Visions Loves Educators grants this year: Mrs. Cara Zakian, Music teacher, Miss Mary Lee, Kindergarten teacher, and Mrs. Kelly Potter, Grade 2 teacher are all recipients of the program.
Students in grades 5 - 8 are working on essays for the Elks Club competition. The topic for this year’s essays is: “What Does Freedom of Speech Mean to Me?”

PTO MEETING
Class Parents & Zoom
October 13, 2020
Principal’s Report
Welcome to all the new parents and Class Parents who will work together this year for the benefit of our students. We are appreciative of your efforts.
A special THANK YOU to all the volunteers who came forward to help paint 2 Upper School classrooms. The project will finish up this week, ahead of schedule. Special thanks to Mr. Scott Young who coordinated the volunteers. Volunteers worked throughout the school day and into some of the night to accomplish this task. SJS students and staff are grateful and appreciative of your efforts! THANK YOU!
MAP testing continues this week with grades 2 through 8 being assessed in Language Arts, Reading and Math. SJS is not testing remote learners as the school has no way of controlling the testing environment. Additionally, SJS is not testing Science and Social Studies.
SJS had a smooth transition of teachers when the Middle School LA teacher resigned in early October. Ms. Lorraine Logerfo has replaced Ms. Trias and we warmly welcome her to this new position at SJS! SJS is grateful to have replaced a FT position at the point of departure.
SJS has ordered 60 chromebooks and is also in the process of ordering additional technology utilizing carryover IDEA funds.
The school will be looking at its current Science books and begin discussion about replacing the textbooks.
SJS is still awaiting delivery of its cameras for use with remote learners. Corporate Technologies anticipates a shipment tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14th.
The remote learner experience has been moving on and we are working through technology difficulties as they arise. We are grateful for everyone's understanding and support during this pandemic.
SJS enrollment is at 201 students; we welcomed another grade 7 student last week.
A Halloween letter detailing how the school will handle Halloween this year is forthcoming.
Pizza lunch is tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14th
SJS does a deep clean every Wednesday after school hours. We use the UV Light sanitizer and the electrostatic spray disinfectant, along with old fashioned elbow grease.
Parents are reminded to provide their student with a clean fresh facial mask every day and to equip the student with an additional mask in the backpack.
SJS continues to interview for open positions. Todate, we are in the process of hiring two PT Maintenance positions. Interviews for a PT PreK 4 Teacher Assistant are ongoing.
The Principal’s Pampered Chef fundraiser is up and running through to October 30, 2020. If you have not yet placed an order please consider doing so. Here is the link: http://www.pamperedchef.com/party/stjosephschool1001
